What's the job?

The Engineer Writer is a skilled professional who collaborates with CertainTeed Roofing TIP (Technology and Industrial Performance) engineers to document the standards and specifications that define the equipment and processes in support of engineering projects undertaken by the Technical Office and the Project Management Office. The incumbent will create, compile, and manage high-quality technical documentation with the goal of sharing knowledge in the CertainTeed Roofing Group. The main responsibility of this role is to create content that is accurate, current, easily understood, and readily accessible to a broad audience. The Engineer Writer will work both independently and collaboratively with our engineering teams to create or revise clear and concise technical documentation. These technical documents can be equipment specifications, engineering standards, manuals, user guides, and other technical materials that explain how to design, purchase, install, use, or maintain manufacturing equipment or processes. The Engineer Writer continuously seeks and utilizes feedback from the Roofing TIP teams to create and keep current best in class standards and documents.

Duties/Responsibilities;

  • Research, analyze, and organize complex technical information into clear, concise, and readable documents.
  • Write, edit, or update technical documents such as equipment specifications and engineering standards.
  • Write, edit, or update procedural documentation such as user guides and manuals.
  • Develop engineering or procedural templates and forms for others to use.
  • Interview engineers, programmers, operations personnel, and project managers to learn about specific products, equipment, or processes.
  • Conduct user/task analysis to determine the type of documentation that will best serve the project requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop supporting material such as drawings, sketches, diagrams, charts, and other visual aids to enhance documentation.
  • Perform peer reviews to ensure documentation is accurate, relevant, concise, easy to use, and conforms to style guide, writing standards, and quality metrics.
  • Compile technical documentation to develop, organize, and maintain the Roofing Technical design library.

What do you bring?

  • University degree in engineering, science, technical writing, or related field is required. A Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline is preferred, but not necessarily required for a candidate who has relevant technical writing experience in an engineering office or similar.
  • 3+ years' relevant experience is required.
  • Must be proficient in English language.
